FARMVILLE, Va. – The Longwood University men's tennis team suffered a 4-0 setback against in-state opponent the University of Richmond on Tuesday afternoon at the Lancer Courts in Farmville. The Lancers (5-12) will return to action tomorrow, Wednesday, April 10, when the squad hosts ASA College beginning at 1:30 p.m. on Senior Day.
Longwood fell in three-straight doubles matches to open the day. Sophomore
Daniel Elston/St. Austell, Cornwall, England and junior
Edward Becker|Sydney, Australia dropped an 8-5 decision in the #1 doubles position. Senior
Giorgi Khmiadashvili/Tbilisi, Georgia and sophomore
Harry Kelleher/Sydney, Australia followed with an 8-4 loss at #2, while freshman
James Fudge/Kaarst, Germany and sophomore
Steed Johnson/Ahoskie, N.C. were defeated 8-6 at #3.
The Lancers also faced setbacks in the #2, #3 and #4 singles positions. Elston fell 6-3, 6-0 at #2, before Becker lost 6-2, 6-1 and Kelleher was retired 6-2, 6-2 in the next two spots. Khmiadashvili, Johnson and freshman
Justin Higgs/Nassau, Bahamas did not finish their respective singles matches, as the outcome was already decided before their sets were completed.
