Vanessa Tapper, Lauren Bernard Earn Weekly NorPac Awards

FARMVILLE, Va. – Freshmen Vanessa Tapper/Virginia Beach and Lauren Bernard/Langhorne, Pa. have each earned a Northern Pacific Field Hockey Conference (NorPac) weekly award for the final week of the regular season. Tapper has been named the NorPac East Rookie of the Week, while Bernard received NorPac East Defensive Player of the Week recognition. This marks the first weekly award for each of these Lancers.

"We are very happy for both of these awards," said head coach Iain Byers. "Vanessa has been playing well all year, but goals have eluded her, so for her to score two in such a key game to start our comeback was great for her. Lauren took her chance in a very intense game against Davidson. We have struggled with this away fixture for a number of years, so for her to do so well with the support of the team in front of her makes us all very proud."

Tapper appeared in both games to help the Lancers to a 2-0 record in conference matches last week. On November 1, she scored her first career goals late in the second half to propel Longwood to a 4-2, comeback victory at Appalachian State. The Lancers trailed, 2-0, with just five and a half minutes remaining in that contest before Tapper's first goal sparked the Lancers' offense and her second sealed the come-from-behind decision with less than three minutes to play.

Bernard earned her second start of the season in front of the cage at Davidson on Nov. 3 in the squad's regular-season finale. She made three saves, while allowing just one goal to help the Lancers secure a 2-1 victory. She is now 1-1 on the season with a .667 save percentage.
