Jessica Diaz Earns NorPac Weekly Award

FARMVILLE, Va. – Longwood University sophomore forward Jessica Diaz|Chesapeake (Western Branch) has been named the Northern Pacific Field Hockey (NorPac) Conference East Division Offensive Player of the Week for week three, as announced by the league office.

“Jessie has been working hard on her individual skills and this award is well deserved,” said head coach Iain Byers. “I am sure that Jessie would be the first to say that the reason she has been so successful is due to the hard work of her teammates.”

Through three games last week, Diaz led the team with 10 points. She registered two goals and added an assist to total a career-high five points in the team's first win of the season against Ball State on September 9. The outing marked her first multiple-goal performance since October 10, 2011 against St. Louis.

On September 8, she tallied a team-high three points with one goal and one assist at Miami (Ohio). In the squad's first game of the week on September 5, she scored the Lancers' lone goal in a 2-1 loss against VCU.

Diaz is currently first on the team with five goals and two assists for 12 total points. This week's honor marks the fourth-career weekly award for the Chesapeake, Va., native. It is the first Offensive Player of the Week award for a Longwood student-athlete since Olga Knop received the recognition on October 25, 2011. Diaz earned Rookie of the Week honors three times as a freshman in 2011.
