Longwood Drops Finale 6-1 At Wake Forest

WINSTON-SALEM, N.C. – Longwood University dropped its final men's tennis match of the season at Wake Forest University of the Atlantic Coast Conference 6-1 Sunday evening in Winston-Salem, North Carolina. Junior transfer Giorgi Khmiadashvili|Tbilisi, Georgia (Public School 148) earned the lone point against the Demon Deacons (14-14) at #2 singles, winning 6-3, 7-5 to a formerly ranked opponent. With the loss, the Lancers concluded their 2011-12 campaign, having compiled an 8-10 overall mark while 3-1 at home, 3-8 in away matches, and 2-1 playing at neutral sites.

Khmiadashvili paired with freshman Daniel Elston|Bath, England (Ralph Allen School) at #1 doubles, playing tough against the 48th-ranked duo of David Hopkins and Amogh Prabhakar in an 8-4 loss. Elston fell at #3 singles, too, 6-1, 6-2. Senior Nobu Tanaka|Potomac, Md. (St. Johns College HS) dropped 6-3, 6-0 at #1 singles and also lost 8-1 at #3 doubles with freshman Steed Johnson|Raleigh, N.C. (Broughton). Sophomore Edward Becker|Sydney, Australia (Manly Selective Campus) suffered a 6-3, 6-2 #4 singles loss, while freshman Harry Kelleher|Sydney, Australia (St Aloysius' College) was defeated 6-4, 6-3 at #5 singles. The sophomore-freshman duo was swept 8-0 at #2 doubles.
