CONWAY, S.C. – The Longwood Universtity men's tennis team was swept at Coastal Carolina 7-0 in Conway, South Carolina Friday afternoon. Freshman Daniel Elston|Bath, England (Ralph Allen School) was one of three Lancers (0-5) to play in a three-set match, almost pulling out the win in a close, hard-fought #3 singles duel, dropping 6-0, 6-7, 15-13. LU will look for its first win of the season when facing Richmond in Conway for a neutral-site match tomorrow (Saturday), February 18 at 10 a.m.

Elston also played in #2 doubles with classmate Harry Kelleher|Sydney, Australia (St Aloysius' College) but lost 8-6. Kelleher dropped his #5 singles match in three sets too, 4-6, 7-5, 10-5, while the other three-set match was played at #2 singles via junior transfer Giorgi Khmiadashvili|Tbilisi, Georgia (Public School 148) that resulted in a score of 6-3, 3-6, 11-9.

Khmiadashvili was on the losing end in doubles as well, pairing with senior Nobu Tanaka|Potomac, Md. (St. Johns College HS) for an 8-3 loss at #1. Tanaka played in the #1 singles slot, falling 6-2, 6-2. Sophomore Edward Becker|Sydney, Australia (Manly Selective Campus) and freshman Steed Johnson|Raleigh, N.C. (Broughton) lost 8-2 at #3 doubles, while Becker lost #4 singles 6-4, 6-4 and Johnson was shutout 6-0, 6-0 at #6 singles.

Tanaka fell 6-1, 7-5 at No. 1 singles, and Khmiadashvili fell 6-3, 6-4 at #2. In the #4 match, Becker was topped 6-0, 7-5, while Johnson put up a fight but ultimately went down in three sets, 6-3, 3-6, 10-6.
