The Fighting Sioux are coached by Brian Jones and are 11-14 while led by sophomores Troy Huff (13.5 points, 6.1 rebounds) and Aaron Anderson (10.8 points). Looking At The Last Game
Longwood took a 90-88 home win past visiting Washington Adventist University Wednesday night. The Lancers led 42-38 at halftime, and extended their advantage to as many as 16 points late, leading 85-69 with 3:51 remaining before the Shock rallied with a 19-5 run while missing a last-second three-point attempt.
Antwan Carter led LU with 28 points and a game-high 13 rebounds for his fourth-straight double-double, and 37th of his career while moving into second place on the all-time scoring list (1,768).
Martiz Washington added 23 points to become only the 19th player in program history to surpass 1,000 career points (1,017), tying his career high with seven three-pointers (7-8) for the Lancers, and
Tristan Carey finished with 17 points, eight rebounds, and a career-high eight assists as the LU played with just seven healthy players in uniform.
Jan van der Kooij finished with 12 points and nine rebounds, while
Anthony Taylor contributed career-highs of 10 points, seven assists, and five rebounds while making his first collegiate start. LU shot 60% (36-60 from the field, including 50% (9-18) on three-pointers, and 60% (9-15) at the line. Jamie Newton led non-Division I WAU with a game-high 39 points, and the Shock shot 42% (34-82) from the field, including 31% (10-32) on three-pointers, and 71% (10-14) at the line.

Longwood is 9-16 as
Antwan Carter (19.3 points, 9.6 rebounds, 25-straight double-figure scoring games), along with
Tristan Carey (13.2 points, 46 3FGs), continue to lead the Lancers this season. They have been joined in the lineup by
Martiz Washington (11.1 points, 68 3FGs) and
Jan van der Kooij (6.8 points, 6.0 rebounds), and most recently by
Anthony Taylor (2.6 points). Carter is only the second player in the 36-year history of the program with at least 1,700 career points (1,768) and 900 career rebounds (962), joining former All-American and 17-year NBA veteran Jerome Kersey '84 (1,756 points, 1,162 rebounds). He appears to be on track to surpass all-time scoring leader Kevin Jefferson '90 who scored 1,806 career points at Longwood. Longwood averages 75.8 points while shooting 44% from the field, including 36% on three-pointers (8.7), and 68% at the free throw line.
Head Coach Mike Gillian
Mike Gillian (North Adams State '86) was named the seventh head coach for men's basketball at Longwood on May 2, 2003. The Ayer, Massachusetts native is 84-184 overall with the Lancers, including 9-16 this season, along with a career-best record of 17-14 during 2008-09 when Gillian earned 2009 Independent Coach of the Year honors from CollegeInsider.com. He previously had been an assistant coach for current Miami (Fla.) head coach Jim Larranaga while at George Mason for six years (1997-2003) following a year with Coach Larranaga at Bowling Green State (1996-97).
