The Knights (8-2), ranked No. 1 in the United States Collegiate Athletic Association Division II Coaches Poll, were led by Devon Dorsey with a double-double of a game-high 20 points along with 13 rebounds. Longwood will play again this Saturday afternoon, December 1, hosting Dartmouth College of the Ivy League at Willett Hall in Farmville at 2 p.m.
Longwood and Central Penn were delayed 30 minutes after the Knights experienced traffic issues en route to Farmville. When it did start, CPC scored the first four points of the game before the Lancers responded with a 15-5 run to lead 15-9 at 15:40 after a layup by Robinson who scored seven quick points. The stubborn visitors were within 27-24 at 9:01 following a layup from Dorsey, but LU outscored CPC 26-18 over the final 8:34 to lead 53-42 at the intermission. Kessens and Robinson each had 14 points at the break, as did Dorsey for the Knights.
Longwood seemed ready to take control with a 13-5 run to open the second half, getting points from five different players to lead 66-47 at 15:52. The Lancers still led 73-56 with 10:31 remaining on a layup from freshman
Karl Ziegler|Annandale, and the hosts were in front 80-65 at 4:34 on a pair of free throws by Ziegler. Central Penn did manage to close to within 81-72 with 3:15 on the clock via a three-point field goal from Connor Arnold, but LU finished on a 7-3 run for the final margin, as Carey scored two layups and freshman
Nik Brown|Ashburn added an old-fashioned three-point play.
Kessens led Longwood with his fifth double-double this season of 18 points and the career-high and game-high 17 rebounds, adding three steals, three blocks and two assists. Carey and Robinson each had 17 points, a season-high for Robinson, while Carey added six rebounds, four steals and three assists for the Lancers. Brown contributed 12 points, a game-high six assists to tie his career-high, and three steals. Ziegler finished with nine points off the bench, and sophomore transfer
Frank Holloway|Alexandria had eight points and seven rebounds off the bench while making his Longwood debut. LU shot 49.2% (32-65) from the field, including 59.4% (19-32) in the first half, 35.3% (6-17) on three-pointers, and 69.2% (18-26) at the line.
Dorsey led Central Penn with his game-high 20 points, adding 13 rebounds for his double-double. Wes Kirkland had 16 points for the Knights. CPC shot 40.0% (28-70) from the field, including 46.7% (7-15) on three-pointers, and 50.0% (12-24) at the line.
