It was the third of four games in the 2012 Continental Tire/Las Vegas Invitational, as Longwood will play Cornell University of the Ivy League on Saturday, November 24, in the Upper Division Championship of the eight-team event at the Orleans Arena in Las Vegas at 5:30 p.m. ET.
Longwood jumped out to a 17-10 lead at 14:08, as Carey made his first five three-point attempts for 15 quick points. FAMU responded with 14 unanswered points to lead 24-17 at 8:26 after a layup by Adams. The Rattlers had their largest lead of the half at 29-24 with 5:13 on the clock, but the Lancers battled back to lead 34-33 at halftime after an old-fashioned three-point play from Brown with 11-seconds remaining. Carey had 17 points at the intermission, and Brown had seven points at the break.

A pair of free throws by Brown made it 73-68 at 1:37, before the Rattlers scored the final five points to force OT. LU had a chance to win it at the free throw line with 4.7-seconds left, but missed two free throws.
In the extra period, FAMU led 79-78 at 2:10 after another basket from Adams, before junior
David Robinson|Chesterfield made a three-pointer to put the Lancers in front 81-79 at 1:50. It was tied at 81-81 with 1:34 to play, before Brown made 1-2 free throws at 1:21 and freshman
Karl Ziegler|Annandale made a jumper at 0:23 for an 84-81 advantage. Following a tip-in by FAMU, Brown made two more free throws with 10.2-seconds left to secure the win, as FAMU missed a last-second three-point attempt.
Carey led Longwood with his career-high tying 30 points, making 11-17 shots, including 7-9 three-pointers and adding eight rebounds. The seven treys tied the school's Division I record shared by three others. Brown added his career-high 21 points, making 9-10 free throws, and adding a career-high six assists. Adams led FAMU with his 26 points. Jamari Bradshaw added 18 points for the Rattlers. Markee Teal and Muhammad Abdul-Aleem each finished with 14 points. FAMU shot 48.5% (33-68) from the field, including 22.2% (4-18) on three-pointers, and 52.0% (13-25) at the line.
Longwood and FAMU were playing for the first time in the sport of men's basketball. Cornell defeated Presbyterian 89-55 in a contest that followed the LU-FAMU game.
