GREENSBORO, N.C. -- Longwood University split a baseball doubleheader on the road at North Carolina A&T of the Mid-Eastern Athletic Conference Sunday afternoon in Greensboro, North Carolina. The Lancers (25-15) won the opener against the Aggies (14-25) by a score of 9-3 before falling 10-4 in the nightcap as the two schools split four games this weekend. Senior captain Brant Jones|Richmond (Monacan) and junior Dustin Sollars|Midlothian (Cosby) each had four hits on the day, including two home runs and two triples by the fourth-year standout Jones, while sophomore Kyler Morgan|Lancaster, Pa. (Lampeter-Strasburg) earned the pitching win in game one with a complete game effort on the mound. The 25 wins mark the 23rd season with at least 25 wins in the program's 34-year history. Longwood will play again on Wednesday night, April 27, hosting Radford University of the Big South Conference at Charles Buddy Bolding Stadium in Farmville for Senior Night beginning at 6 p.m. As always, admission is free to all home Longwood Baseball games.

In the opener, Longwood scored nine runs on 13 hits, including single runs in the third, fourth, and fifth innings before adding four runs in the sixth and two final runs in the seventh. A&T scored two runs in the fourth and one run in the seventh with six hits in the game. The Lancers started things in the third when junior Robby Newman|Virginia Beach (Salem) (2-4, rbi) led-off with a solo home run to left field for his fourth homer this season. Jones (2-4, rbi) hit a one-out, solo home run to center field in the fourth, his first of two homers on the day. In the fifth, senior captain Chris Briere|Midlothian (James River) (3-4, rbi) reached on a one-out single and later scored via a throwing error on a sacrifice bunt by freshman Alex Owens|Purcellville (Loudoun Valley) (0-1).

The four-run sixth took place after two outs as Sollars (2-4), Newman, and Briere each hit consecutive singles with Briere's hit scoring Sollars. Newman and Briere scored via another error that allowed Owens to reach base after striking out, and he scored on an RBI triple from freshman Matt Dickason|Chesapeake (Indian River) (2-3, rbi). In the seventh, Jones led-off with a triple and scored on a ground-ball out off the bat of sophomore Justin Lacy|Glen Allen (J.R. Tucker) (0-3, rbi). Freshman Scott Burkett|Williamsburg (Jamestown) (1-4) singled and later crossed the plate courtesy a balk to complete the scoring by the visitors.

Morgan went the distance on the mound for Longwood, scattering six hits and three runs, all earned, with three strikeouts and one walk over the 7.0-inning complete game effort.

Mark Nales (2-3) and Marquis Riley (2-4) each had two hits for North Carolina A&T, while Kelvin Freeman (1-2, rbi) and Luke Tendler (0-2, rbi) each had RBI for the Aggies. Brent Moore (2-6) took the complete game pitching loss for the hosts.

In the nightcap, A&T scored seven runs in the first inning, added two more runs in the second and closed with a run in the sixth. Longwood scored four runs on seven hits with three runs in the fourth and one run in the fifth. The Lancers' three-run fourth included a run-scoring double by Sollars (2-3, rbi), a ground-ball RBI from Newman (0-2, rbi), and a run-scoring single by sophomore Scott Laabs|Glen Allen (Deep Run) (1-2, rbi). In the fifth, Jones (2-4, rbi) led-off with another solo home run to left field for his second of the day and fourth homer of the season.

Freshman Cory Ramsey|Petersburg (Matoaca) (5-3) took the pitching loss for Longwood with the first one-third of an inning, allowing five hits and seven runs, four earned, with no strikeouts and one walk. Sophomores Bobby Shelton|Forest (Jefferson Forest) [3.2 ip, 5h, 2r, 1er, 3k, 3bb] and Kyle Long|Halifax (Halifax County) [2.0 ip, 4h, 1r, 1er, 1k, 0bb] each pitched in relief for the Lancers.

Carvell Copeland (4-4, 2 rbi) had four hits and two RBI for North Carolina A&T, while Tendler (3-3, 2 rbi) added three hits and two RBI for the Aggies. Dario Little (1-3, 2 rbi) had a hit and two RBI, and Nales (0-2, 2 rbi) had two RBI as well, while Garrett Braun (2-4) earned the complete game pitching win for the hosts with nine strikeouts.

Longwood veteran 33rd-year head coach Buddy Bolding (897-492-4) added career coaching victory number 897 in the opener.
