WASHINGTON, D.C. – The Longwood University men's tennis team beat Georgetown 6-1 in Washington, D.C. Friday afternoon. Sophomore
Marc Ferrigno|Hvidovre, Denmark (Brondby Gymnasium) moved his spring singles record to 8-3 with a No. 2 win in three sets 6-3, 2-6, 6-1. The Lancers (5-6) play another road match Tuesday, April 5, at 3 p.m. against Liberty in Lynchburg, Virginia.
Ferrigno also won his doubles match with freshman partner
Jimmy Davis|Manassas (Stonewall Jackson) 8-6 at No. 1, boosting their spring doubles record to 6-2. Davis won at No. 4 singles, too, leading 7-6, 4-1 before his opponent retired. Also winning in three sets was junior
Nobu Tanaka|Potomac, Md. (St. Johns College HS) by a score of 4-6, 6-4, 6-2 at No. 1, and freshman
Crescente Lesser|Santiago, Chile (La Reina) won in two sets at No. 3, 7-5, 6-4. Freshman
Edward Becker|Sydney, Australia (Manly Selective Campus) topped his No. 6 foe 7-6, 6-2, while senior
Milo Barajas-Alexander|Arlington (Bishop O'Connell) retired his No. 5 match after losing the first set 6-3.
Becker and Barajas-Alexander dropped 4-8 at No. 2, but Tanaka and Lesser were victorious in the No. 3 position 8-2.
“It was a very good win under very difficult conditions,” said assistant coach
Jakob Gustafsson. “But I'm happy we got the win, and hopefully we can carry it over to our next match.”
