WINSTON-SALEM, N.C. - The Longwood University field hockey team dropped a 4-2 decision at #8 Wake Forest University of the Atlantic Coast Conference on Tuesday evening at Kentner

Lauren Sullivan | Fredericksburg (Stafford) each scored for the Lancers. Knop's
goal put Longwood (1-3) ahead in the ninth minute and Sullivan's goal gave the Lancers the 2-1 lead in the 33rd minute. Wake Forest (4-1) tied the match just before halftime and it stayed tied until the Demon Deacons scored the game-winning goal in the 65th minute. The Lancers return to action on Saturday, September 11, when they travel to Lock Haven, Pennsylvania, to take on Lock Haven University at 12 p.m..
"It is challenging anytime you play two top-10 ACC schools in four days," said third-year head coach
Iain Byers. "We executed better when we had possession
of the ball and kept the match close throughout. The second goal was a tough one since they tied it up as the half ended. We played with a lot of heart tonight, and we're happy about that."
The Lancers got on the board in the ninth minute when Knop
scored her first goal of the season off a penalty corner. Senior

knocked it into the goal. Wake Forest answered just over a minute later when Lizzie Rae took advantage of a Longwood turnover deep in the circle and scored the unassisted goal to tie the match at 1-1. Sullivan put the Lancers ahead in the 33rd minute when she tipped a pass from sophomore
Brittany Diaz | Chesapeake (Western Branch) into an empty net. The Demon Deacons tied the match just before halftime as Lauren Greenwald scored on a penalty corner at the end of the period.
Neither team scored in the first 29 minutes of the second half before Wake Forest scored the match-winning goal in the 65th minute on a long pass from Greenwald to Kari Walkley
who turned and shot. Faith Adams added an insurance goal in the 70th minute to make the final score 4-2.

Wake Forest outshot Longwood 15-5 and had a 7-3 advantage in penalty corners.
