Longwood Falls At Lock Haven 2-1

LOCK HAVEN, Pa. - The Longwood University field hockey team fell at Lock Haven University 2-1 on Saturday afternoon in Lock Haven, Pennsylvania. Longwood (1-4) was led by junior Olga Knop | Berlin, Germany (Wener-von-Siemens-Gymnasium) who scored her second goal of the season in the 43rd minute to tie the match at 1-1. The Lancers return to action on Sunday, September 12, when they travel to Easton, Pa., to take on Lafayette College at 11 a.m..

Lock Haven struck first when Leslie Ahern took the ball into the circle and cut it past the goalkeeper to put the Eagles ahead 1-0 in the 18th minute. Lock Haven outshot Longwood 5-2 in the first period with Longwood sophomore goalkeeper Kaye Goulding | Tickhill, England (Wakefield Girls) recording two saves.

The Lancers tied the match in the 43rd minute on a penalty corner. Senior Lauren van de Kamp | Midlothian (Trinity Episcopal) pushed the ball to junior stopper Sarah Bietsch | Chambers, Pa. (Chambers Area) who set Knop up for the shot. Amy Hordendorf deflected a shot for the match-winning goal in the 60th minute for Lock Haven.

“This was our weakest performance of the season,” said third-year head coach Iain Byers. “We played well in the last 10 minutes, but we have to learn to challenge from the start. We have to learn from our mistakes and come back tomorrow and make the corrections.”

Lock Haven outshot Longwood 10-4 and had a 7-2 advantage on penalty corners.
