FARMVILLE, Va. -- Longwood University senior baseball standout
Brant Jones|Richmond (Monacan) has been named to the 2nd-Team of the All-Valley League for 2010. Playing third base for the Haymarket Senators, he is hitting .355 with the five home runs, two triples, seven doubles, 38 RBI, and 29 runs scored while posting a .539 slugging percentage and a .410 on-base percentage. Jones has started 33 of 34 games for Haymarket (33-15), currently playing in the semifinals of the prestigious wooden bat league against Front Royal. Jones did miss 14 games earlier this season after breaking his nose when hit in the face by a pitch.

Phil Cerreto|Midlothian has been named the Appalachian League's Offensive Player of the Week for the second time in three weeks, earning the award again for the week ending August 8. He hit safely in all four games while batting a torrid .625 (10-16) with one home run, four doubles, eight RBI, and seven runs scored for Johnson City (Tenn.) as the Cardinals won three of four. For the season, Cerreto is hitting an impressive .420 with seven home runs, two triples, 15 doubles, 37 RBI, and 26 runs scored while posting a .756 slugging percentage and a .459 on-base percentage. He has started 29 games for Johnson City (30-17) as the Cardinals are currently in second place in the rookie league's West Division. Cerreto leads the Appy League in batting and on-base percentage while second in slugging percentage, tied for second in RBI, tied for third in doubles, fifth in total bases (90), and tied for seventh in home runs.
