HOW IT HAPPENED:

The Lancers kicked things off with an RBI groundout by Jae'dan Carter in the first to get on the board.

VCU responded that same inning with an RBI single from Nate Kirkpatrick to tie things up.

The Rams then scored five runs off an RBI bunt, a two-run homer, and an RBI single in the fifth inning to take the lead 6-1.

Cooper Weygandt (1-1) earned the win after pitching three relief innings. He had three strikeouts, two hits, and no walks.

Brady Hoover (2-3) took the loss after pitching four innings, with eight hits, three strikeouts, no walks, and five runs allowed.

WHAT THEY SAID:

"We are in a weird funk right now on defense and offensively," said Head Coach Ray Noe. "We are not making the routine plays, and we have guys in the right positions, but it's lacking the execution piece. We have to work to clean it up defensively while also getting the offense in a better spot. We are experiencing quite a lull in the middle innings from our offense over the last few weeks, and we need to stay on the attack and be better. I thought Brady gave us a great start today, and I was really pleased to see Cam Freeman, Cal Travers, and Joe Gomez have some success today because they have been working incredibly hard on some things in their catch play and bullpens."

UP NEXT:

The Lancers finish a long stretch on the road with a series against The Citadel starting on Apr 2 with first pitch slated for 11 a.m. The series will be broadcast on ESPN+.
