BUIES CREEK, N.C. -- Longwood University took a 5-4 baseball victory on the road at Campbell University of the Atlantic Sun Conference Friday night in Buies Creek, North Carolina. The Lancers (21-17) scored three runs in the ninth inning to break a 2-2 tie and earn the road win, the big hit coming from sophomore
Dustin Sollars/Midlothian (Cosby) with a clutch two-out, two-run double against the Fighting Camels (24-22). Longwood and Campbell will play again on Saturday, a doubleheader at Taylor Field in North Carolina beginning at 1 p.m..

Robby Newman/Virginia Beach (Salem) (1-3) who had reached on a bunt single to open the inning. Campbell scored a run in the second as well as Cameron Nelson (3-4, RBI) provided an RBI single. It remained 2-1 until the seventh inning when the Camels added another run on an RBI double from Ellis Lowe (2-3, 2 RBI). LU took a 5-2 advantage with three runs in the ninth as Kimble scored on a two-out fielding error ahead of the two-out, two-run double by Sollars (2-5, 2 RBI). CU managed two runs in the ninth on a pair of sacrifice flies from Lowe and Alan Denman (0-0, RBI) to provide for the final one-run margin.

Mark Montgomery/Williamsburg (Bruton) (3-1) took the pitching win for Longwood with the final 2.2 innings on the mound, allowing two hits and two runs, both earned, with three strikeouts and one walk. Senior
Lance Harting/Ballston Spa, N.Y. (Ballston Spa) started and tossed the first 6.1 solid innings, scattering 10 hits and two runs, both earned, with two strikeouts and one walk.
Daniel Gardo (1-3) took the mound loss for Campbell while pitching 0.2 innings of late relief and yielding two hits and two runs, both earned, with no strikeouts and no walks.
