Longwood To Face Richmond Kickers USL In Exhibition Match March 27th In South Hill

FARMVILLE, Va. - The Longwood University men's soccer team is set for an exhibition match against the Richmond Kickers of the United Soccer League (USL-2) on Saturday, March 27, at 3 p.m. at Bunny's Field in South Hill. The Kickers won the 2009 USL-2 championship. Tickets are $10 in advance at the South Hill Chamber and Montague Brothers Hardware or $15 at the gate.

“Not only is this game special due to the caliber of opposition but it truly impacts a small but thriving soccer community close to Longwood,” said Longwood head coach Jon Atkinson. “We know this game will be a severe test playing against a professional outfit in the form of Richmond Kickers but this can only make our team better and we are delighted to be part of this community wide initiative to bring top level soccer to Lake Gaston soccer club.

The Kickers are coming off their second USL-2 championship in four years. Richmond posted an 11-3-6 mark last year and welcome back USL-2 Goalkeeper of the Year Ronnie Pascale and top scorer Matthew Delicâte. The Kickers are preparing for the 2010 season that kicks off in mid-April.

Longwood is coming off a 6-12-2 campaign, including a 2-2 mark in Atlantic Soccer Conference (ASC)  competition. The Lancers fell to Adelphi 2-1 in the ASC championship game. Harvey Headley/Coventry, England (Stoke Park) led Longwood with 17 points on seven goals with three assists.
