HIGH POINT, N.C. - Longwood men's soccer went toe-to-toe at league leader High Point on Saturday night. The Panthers scored once in each half and held off a number of dangerous Lancer opportunities to pull out the 2-0 win.
Despite the Lancers outshooting the Panthers (7-3-1, 3-0 Big South), 17-15, it was the home that scored in each half. Prosper Adagani scored on a breakaway to give High Point a 1-0 lead just over five minutes from halftime, and Daniel Lugo scored in the 84th minute, tucking a shot just inside the post for the final margin.
Longwood (6-4, 1-2 Big South) narrowly missed taking a lead just 20 minutes into the game off an unfortunate bounce from the post. Freshman
Baltazar Gramajo unleashed a shot from 35 yards out that beat High Point goalkeeper Josh Caron to the right post, but it bounced off the inside of the woodwork and was cleared away.
Trailing 1-0 at the half, Longwood turned up the pressure to start the second half. In the opening 13 minutes of the period, the Lancers attempted five shots. Junior
Brando Bedolla had a shot from the top of the box that went just wide of the left post in the 51st minute, before freshman
Vicent Martinez's chance went just wide of the right post.
Junior
Mamadou Seck made a huge defensive save to keep the game scoreless just five minutes into the contest. Graduate student goalkeeper
Nicolas Pucci finished the night with two saves. Bedolla led Longwood with six shots, while Martinez added three.
