CHARLOTTE, N.C. - Longwood graduate student goalkeeper Nicolas Pucci was named the Big South Men's Soccer Defensive Player of the Week, the league announced on Monday.
Pucci made four saves in posting a clean sheet in the Lancers' 2-0 home win over USC Upstate on Saturday night. The Cary, N.C., native made three of his four saves in the opening half, including back-to-back stops in the 39th and 40th minutes to keep Longwood's lead at 1-0. The former was an impressive breakaway stop of Oscar Kelley.
It marks the fourth weekly award for the Lancers this fall. Pucci joined junior Brando Bedolla (Aug. 31) and sophomore
Youssef Shafei (Aug. 24) in earning player of the week honors, though both were the offensive player of the week.
Levon Saribekyan was selected named the league's freshman of the week on Sept. 8.
At 6-3 on the year, Longwood hits the road to continue Big South play at preseason league favorite High Point on Saturday, Oct. 3. The match carries a 7:30 p.m. start time and will be available on ESPN+
