Men's Soccer Opens Big South Play at UNC Asheville on Saturday

FARMVILLE, Va. - Longwood men's soccer opens Big South Conference play on the road at UNC Asheville on Saturday afternoon at 2 p.m.  
 
The match-up features two of the best offenses in the country. Both teams rank among the top 10 nationally in scoring, assists, and points, and are also No. 1 and No. 2 in the Big South in all three categories. The Bulldogs rank second in the country at 3.57 goals per game, while the Lancers are close behind in ninth at three per contest.

Lancer News and Notes 
 
- Longwood will have a tough start to the Big South schedule, playing the top three teams in the league preseason poll with two of those match-ups on the road. UNCA was picked second in the preseason and has the best non-conference record so far in the league at 5-1-1, including three-straight wins.  
 
- Juniors Joshwa Campbell and Brando Bedolla as well as freshman Levon Saribekyan were among seven forwards selected to the Big South Conference Midseason Watch List on Thursday. In total, 27 student-athletes were honored by the league ahead of the Big South Conference openers on Saturday. Bedolla was also named to the preseason list.  
 
- Bedolla, who was named the Big South Offensive Player of the Week on Aug. 31, leads the country in assists (7) and ranks third in points (15). He tops the Big South in both categories, while ranking third in goals (4).  
 
- Campbell is one of the top goal scorers in the country this season, ranking 11th nationally in goals (5) and ninth in game-winning goals (2). He scored twice in wins over William & Mary and Coastal Carolina. Campbell leads the Big South in goals and game-winning goals, while ranking third in points (11). 
 
- Saribekyan ranks among the top 10 in the Big South in points (fourth at 10), goals (third at 4), and assists (ninth at 2). He earned Big South Freshman of the Week honors after recording a hat trick, including the game-winning penalty kick, in the Lancers' 4-3 road win at ETSU (Sept. 5). 
 
- Longwood jumped out to its best Division I start in school history at 5-0 and along the way earned its first vote in program history in the United Soccer Coaches National Top 25 this season.  
 
- Despite being held scoreless in its last two games, the Lancers still feature one of the top offenses in the country. Longwood ranks fifth nationally in assists per game (3.29), seventh points per game (9.29), and ninth in scoring (3.0).
