CHARLOTTESVILLE, Va. - The Longwood University field hockey team dropped a 2-0 decision at the fourth-ranked University of Virginia of the Atlantic Coast Conference on Wednesday evening in Charlottesville. The Lancers (3-10) held the Cavaliers (10-1) scoreless in the first half before giving up a pair of goals in the second period. Longwood returns to action on Sunday, October 10, when they face the University of Richmond in Richmond at 1 p.m..
“We had another strong performance against an ACC squad,” said third-year head coach
Iain Byers. “We had a much better effort than we had against North Carolina. The girls are disappointed, but we were more aggressive tonight and that led to more shots. We know what we are capable of, and now is time for us to focus on Richmond.”

The Cavaliers took the lead in the 55th minute on a goal by Paige Selenski. They added an insurance goal in the 61st minute to take the 2-0 lead. Senior

Lauren van de Kamp | Midlothian (Trinity Episcopal) had a pair of shots stopped in the final minute.
Virginia outshot Longwood 10-7 and had a 4-3 edge in penalty corners. Goulding allowed two goals with five saves in 70 minutes in goal. The Lancers were led offensively by de Grandhomme and van de Kamp with two shots each. Kastuk made five saves in the shutout for the Cavaliers. Virginia was led offensively by Tara Puffenberger with one goal on three shots while Selenski scored one goal on two shots.
