BOONE,  N.C.  - The Longwood University field hockey team snapped a four-match skid, defeating  NorPac opponent Appalachian State University 4-2 on Sunday afternoon in Boone,  North Carolina. Freshman 
Stacey de  Grandhomme | Cape Town, South Africa (Table View) scored a pair of goals,  while senior 
Lauren Sullivan | Fredericksburg (Stafford) and junior 
Sarah Bietsch | Chambersburg,  Pa. (Chambersburg Area) each recorded one goal. The Lancers (3-9, 1-2  NorPac) return to action on Wednesday, October 6, when they travel to  Charlottesville to take on #3 University of Virginia at 6 p.m..
“We  learned a lot from our mistakes,” said third-year head coach 
Iain Byers. “We controlled the game  better, worked within our system. The NorPac is wide open right now, and we are  excited to see what happens from here.”
The Lancers struck first when de  Grandhomme scored on a short corner play in the 24th minute, taking the pass  from senior 
Lauren van de Kamp | Midlothian (Trinity Episcopal) and  sending a shot past the goalkeeper. Bietsch added a goal in the 26th minute.  Longwood carried a 2-0 lead into halftime. The Lancers outshot the Mountaineers  11-1 in the first half and had an 8-2 advantage in penalty corners.
The  Mountaineers (5-6, 2-1 NorPac) scored in the 43rd minute to cut the  lead to 2-1. de Grandhomme scored her second goal of the match on a breakaway  after a pass from senior 
Kimberly Sullivan | Fredericksburg (Stafford) in  the 53rd minute to push the Lancers ahead 3-1. 
Lauren Sullivan added  an insurance goal in the 57th minute after she deflected a pass from  de Grandhomme into the cage. The Mountaineers scored one more goal to make the  final score 4-2.
Sophomore 
Amy Lewis | Lewisville, N.C. (Forsyth  Country Day) recorded one save and allowed two goals in 70 minutes. The  Lancers were led offensively by de Grandhomme with two goals and one assist on a  game-high seven shots. 
Bridgette  Street allowed four goals with seven saves in 70 minutes in goal for ASU. Jenn Heiss and Lisa Charney each scored a goal for the  Mountaineers. 
Longwood outshot Appalachian State 14-4 and had a 9-6  advantage in penalty corners.
