DAVIDSON, N.C. - The Longwood University field hockey team dropped a 6-4 decision at NorPac foe Davidson College on Saturday afternoon in Davidson, North Carolina. Four different players scored for Longwood, led by freshman Stacey de Grandhomme | Cape Town, South Africa (Table View) with one goal and one assist. The Lancers (2-9, 0-2 NorPac) return to action on Sunday, October 3, when they face NorPac opponent Appalachian State University at 2 p.m. in Boone, N.C..

The Lancers led 2-1 at halftime. de Grandhomme scored her fourth goal of the season in the sixth minute when she took the ball into the circle and scored from the right side to put Longwood ahead 1-0. Davidson (9-2, 2-0 NorPac) answered in the ninth minute, but senior Lauren Sullivan | Fredericksburg (Stafford) put Longwood ahead 2-1 in the 11th minute after de Grandhomme passed the ball around the Davidson goalkeeper to Lauren Sullivan who found the cage.

Davidson tied the match in the 39th minute but the Lancers would pull ahead again in the 49th minute when sophomore Taylor Bender | Harrisburg, Pa. (Central Dauphin) deflected a pass from senior Kimberly Sullivan | Fredericksburg (Stafford). Senior Lauren van de Kamp | Midlothian (Trinity Episcopal) pushed the Longwood lead to 4-2 in the 54th minute after she lifted a shot into the top left corner after a pass from junior Olga Knop | Berlin, Germany (Werner-von-Siemens-Gymnasium).

The Wildcats rallied for four goals in the final 15 minutes, with Christine Rua netting the match-winner in the 63rd minute.

“It is disappointing to go ahead 4-2 and then lose the game,” said third-year head coach Iain Byers. “This really shows how evenly matched the NorPac teams are. We still aren't halfway through our NorPac schedule, so we need to concentrate on the matches we have left to make up the deficit we face.”

Freshman goalkeeper Kaye Goulding | Tickhill, England (Wakefield Girls) recorded four saves while allowing six goals in 70 minutes. de Grandhomme led Longwood offensively with six shots, including four shots on goal. Senior Andrea Bastiaanse | Granby Conn. (Granby Memorial) added two shots on goal.
