RADFORD, Va. – The Longwood University field hockey team carried a 5-1 Northern Pacific Field Hockey Conference (NorPac) decision past Radford University on Sunday afternoon in Radford. Senior Lauren Sullivan | Fredericksburg (Stafford) led the Lancers (4-12, 2-2 NorPac) with two goals and one assist while freshman Stacey de Grandhomme | Cape Town, South Africa (Table View) added two goals against the Highlanders (8-7, 2-3 NorPac). Longwood returns to action on Saturday, October 23, when it hosts NorPac foe Davidson College at 12 p.m. at the Athletics Complex in Farmville. Admission is free.

“It is good to get another NorPac win,” said third-year head coach Iain Byers. “We got five goals today, which is something that we have struggled to do in recent games. We played well as a team, particularly the front line that had all of our goals and really executed well.”

The Lancers grabbed the 1-0 lead in the first half when Lauren Sullivan took a pass from junior Alison Akers | Virginia Beach (First Colonial) and snuck a shot under the rushing goalkeeper in the 23rd minute. Longwood outshot Radford 7-4 in the first half.

The Lancers extended the lead in the second half when junior Amanda Babineau | Stafford (Mountain View) collected a loose ball in front of the cage off the stick of Lauren Sullivan and scored, putting the Lancers ahead 2-0 in the 38th minute. Radford's Emily Voss scored in the 43rd minute to pull within one goal but de Grandhomme pushed the Longwood lead back to 3-1 in the 45th minute when she took a pass from sophomore Kaity Byrum | Suffolk (Lakeland) and scored. de Grandhomme added an insurance goal just four minutes later after collecting a rebound and scoring from in front of the cage. Lauren Sullivan scored in the 62nd minute to make the final score 5-1.

Longwood outshot Radford 14-9 and had a 4-3 edge in penalty corners. Sophomore Kaye Goulding | Tickhill, England (Wakefield Girls) recorded four saves and allowed just one goal for the Lancers. Jennifer Wisniewski made seven saves while allowing five goals for the Highlanders.
