PRINCESS ANNE, Md. -- Longwood University swept its second-straight baseball doubleheader at the University of Maryland-Eastern Shore Sunday afternoon in Maryland, winning the first game 7-4 and the second game 15-2. The Lancers improved to 25-17 while completing the four-game sweep against the Hawks who are now 11-39. Longwood has attained its 21st overall 25-win season in the 32-year history of the program, and is scheduled to play again on Wednesday, May 6, on the road at Old Dominion University in Norfolk beginning at 7 p.m..
In the opener, Longwood took a 2-0 lead in the first inning behind an RBI single from sophomore
Brant Jones/Richmond (Monacan) (3-3, 2 RBI) and an RBI double by junior
Casey Havers/Thorofare, N.J. (West Deptford) (2-5, 3 RBI). UMES scored three runs in the second inning to lead 3-2 before the Lancers added two runs in the sixth to lead 4-3 as Jones had an RBI double and junior
Phil Cerreto/Midlothian (Midlothian) (1-3, RBI) had an RBI single. The Hawks tied it at 4-4 with a run in the seventh before LU scored two more runs in the eighth on a two-run double from Havers, and the Lancers added an insurance run in the ninth via an RBI single by freshman #D.J. Pomposini#/Danville (George Washington) (1-2, RBI).
Junior
Lance Harting/Ballston Spa, N.Y. (Ballston Spa) (5-6) took the pitching win in relief for Longwood with the final 2.1 scoreless innings, allowing no hits and no walks with three strikeouts. Freshman
Mike Stancik/Ashburn (Stone Bridge) (4-5) led the Lancers' 16-hit attack with four hits, including a double, while senior
Jonathan Quigley/Annandale (W.T. Woodson) (3-4) added three hits as well for the visitors, including a triple.
In the nightcap, Longwood scored one run in the first inning, nine runs in the second, two runs in the third, and three more runs in the fourth while pounding out double-digit hits for the fourth-straight game as well with 17 hits. In the first, Cerreto (1-3, RBI) provided an RBI single, while in the second inning, Stancik (1-2, RBI) had an RBI double and later stole home; junior
Scott Kimble/Spotsylvania (Spotsylvania) (3-4, 3 RBI) collected an RBI on a fielder's choice; Havers (2-4, 3 RBI), Quigley (1-5, RBI), and junior
David Smiy Jr./Chesterfield (Matoaca) (3-4, RBI) had consecutive RBI singles; and freshman
Robby Newman/Virginia Beach (Salem) (3-3, RBI) added an RBI double. In the third, Havers added a sacrifice fly, and in the fourth, Kimble had a two-run single and Havers added another RBI single. UMES managed single runs in both the second and fourth innings.

Daniel Johnsen/Arlington (Yorktown) (1-0) earned his first collegiate pitching win for Longwood with a complete-game, 7.0-inning effort on the mound, scattering six hits and one earned run with one walk and two strikeouts.
