FARMVILLE, Va. - The Longwood University men's tennis team swept George Mason University on Friday afternoon in Farmville. Senior
Carlos Garcia de Andoain/Madrid, Spain (Liceo Sorolla 'C') played an exciting match at the #1 singles, winning 5-7, 6-0, 10-6. The Lancers improve to 10-6 on the season while the Patriots fall to 2-8. Longwood returns to the court on Monday, April 6, when it hosts Stony Brook University at 2 p.m.
In addition to Garcia de Andoain, the Lancers picked up wins from senior
Brandon Lindsley/Woodbridge (Woodbridge) at #2 (6-4, 3-0 Retired), freshman
Nobu Tanaka/Potomac, Md. (St. Johns College) at #3 (6-1, 6-1), junior
David Cardoso/Porto, Portugal (Externato Lumen) at #4 (6-1, 6-2), junior
Billy Heird/York, Pa. (Dallastown) at #5 (6-0, 6-2) and junior
Andres Lazarte/Vienna, Va. (San Miguel) at #6 (6-0, 6-3).
Longwood claimed the doubles point after winning two of the doubles flights. Heird and Lindsley won at #1 (9-7) and Tanaka and sophomore
Milo Barajas-Alexander/Arlington (Bishop O'Connell) won at #3 (8-2). Cardoso and Garcia de Andoain fell at #2 (3-8).
Tanaka improves to 14-2 on the season and has won nine out of his last 10. Cardoso and Heird are both 9-5 on the season while Lindsley is 10-6.
The Lancers have already eclipsed last year's win total with three matches remaining by earning their tenth win of the season. Last year's squad went 9-8.
