WASHINGTON, D.C. - The Longwood University men's tennis team defeated Georgetown University 4-3 on Friday afternoon in Washington. Longwood claimed the first three singles flights and the fifth singles to secure the win. The Lancers improve to 8-5 on the season while Georgetown falls to 3-16. Longwood returns to action on Sunday, March 29, when it hosts George Washington University in Farmville at 1 p.m.
The Lancers won four of the singles flights. Senior
Carlos Garcia de Andoain/Madrid, Spain (Liceo Sorolla 'C') won at #1 (7-5, 7-5), senior
Brandon Lindsley/Woodbridge (Woodbridge) won at #2 (7-6 (0), 6-1), freshman
Nobu Tanaka/Potomac, Md. (St. Johns College) won at #3 (6-0, 6-7 (5), 6-2) and junior
David Cardoso/Porto, Portugal (Externato Lumen) won at #5 (6-3, 6-2). Tanaka has now won his flight in 11 straight dual matches. Junior
Billy Heird/York, Pa. (Dallastown) fell at #4 (5-7, 4-6) and sophomore
Milo Barajas-Alexander/Arlington (Bishop O'Connell) lost at #6 (4-6, 2-6).
Longwood lost two of the three doubles flights to lose the point. Cardoso and Garcia de Andoain won at #3 (9-7). Barajas-Alexander and Heird fell at #1 (5-8) and Lindsley and Tanaka fell at #2 (8-9 (3)).
