FARMVILLE, Va. -- Longwood University Athletics has reached an agreement with WVHL Radio, 92.9 FM Kickin' Country to broadcast all 31 men's basketball games locally in Farmville during 2008-09. This is the fourth-straight year for a broadcast partnership with Kickin' Country as the flagship station, insuring that all games are available worldwide via the Internet as well at www.longwoodlancers.com (TEAMLINE link).
“Longwood Athletics is extremely pleased to once-again renew our great partnership with Kickin' Country,” said Troy Austin, Director of Athletics. “WHVL continues to provide our men's basketball program added exposure within both the community and region for what promises to be another exciting season.”
92.9 FM Kickin' Country is the Farmville area's only 24-hour, seven days a week modern country format serving the Heart of Virginia. At 6,000 watts, WVHL covers a 10-county area, including Prince Edward, Buckingham, Cumberland, Powhatan, Amelia, Nottoway, Lunenburg, Charlotte, Appomattox, and Campbell counties. Kickin' Country is the CMT Affiliate for Southside Virginia with programming that features today's top-charting modern country artists, and is flavored with the best in country gold as well. WVHL also offers local news, weather, sports, and information plus ABC Network news and sports.
“We are thrilled to be associated with the Longwood Men's Basketball program for the fourth consecutive season,” said Richard LeSueur, Kickin' Country's Sports Director. “We look forward to broadcasting the Lancers' entire schedule again this year, including marquee matchups at West Virginia, Kentucky, Virginia Tech, Virginia, and Florida. Also, the 15-game home schedule is highlighted by visits from James Madison and George Washington.”
92.9 FM Kickin' Country will air “The Mike Gillian Show” weekly as well, a 30-minute show that will feature sixth-year Longwood head coach Mike Gillian, hosted by assistant athletics director for media relations, Greg Prouty. The coach's show will be broadcast every Wednesday night at 6 p.m. during the season, beginning this Wednesday, November 12, and concluding on March 11, 2009.
Handling the play-by-play action again this year will be
Scott Bacon, now in his second year as voice of both the Lancers and the Lynchburg Hillcats. An Ohio native, Bacon is the Director of Broadcasting for the Hillcats, the Advanced-A affiliate of the Pittsburgh Pirates.
Longwood will open the 2008-09 campaign this Friday night, November 14, hosting NAIA?Virginia-Wise in Willett Hall beginning at 7 p.m.; the first of three-straight home games in Farmville, followed by contests against Norfolk State (Nov. 16, 7 p.m.) and Gardner-Webb (Nov. 18, 7 p.m.).
