Tucker Earns Big South Honorable Mention, Thompson Jr. All-Academic

FARMVILLE, Va. – Longwood men's basketball had a pair of players earn postseason recognition in the Big South All-Conference awards, announced this afternoon.

Elijah Tucker was named All-Big South Honorable Mention while Redd Thompson Jr. was selected to the All-Academic Team, the league office announced.

Tucker was a force on the interior while helping lead Longwood to its fifth straight winning season for the first time in more than 40 years. He led Longwood 12.5 points per game to lead the team and was a steady presence while starting all 31 games.

In Big South play, Tucker leveled up. He had seven of his eight double-doubles in conference action while scoring 13.3 points and snaring 8.3 rebounds per game. His 3.1 offensive rebounds per game in Big South action represented better than 25 percent of Longwood's offensive boards, and he also scored in double figures 12 times in 16 league games. In the final five games, he had three double-doubles and scored in double figures to help Longwood record its highest finish in the league standings—tied for fourth—since the 2022-23 season.

Thompson, meanwhile, has a GPA above 3.50 and has also served as one of Longwood's top four scorers on the season. He averaged 10.5 points per game while also leading the Lancers in made threes. In addition, he averaged two assists per game.

In conference play, Thompson bumped his scoring average to 11.1 points per game, and he scored in double figures nine times while posting at least 20 points twice.

The Lancers return to action on Friday at the Big South Tournament, presented by the Air Force Reserve, in Johnson City, Tenn. Longwood enters as the fifth seed after tying with UNC Asheville for fourth in the conference standings. The two sides will meet for a 6 p.m. matchup at the Freedom Hall Civic Center, and the game will air on ESPN+.
