FARMVILLE, Va. – Longwood University junior baseball standout Alex Owens/Purcellville is this week’s Longwood Male Athlete of the Week. The third baseman hit .467 (7-15) with one home run, one triple, five RBI, four runs and four walks, two intentional in the first four games of the season last week. He led the Lancers to a season-opening, 11-9 win on the road at James Madison University of the Colonial Athletic Association on February 20 in Harrisonburg with his 4-5 effort at the plate that included the homer, triple, four RBI and two runs scored. Owens was 2-4 with an RBI, two runs and two walks, one intentional during a 12-4 home win past Fairfield University of the Metro Atlantic Athletic Conference on Feb. 23 at Charles Buddy Bolding Stadium. Prior to a road game at Western Carolina University of the Southern Conference on Feb. 27, Owens was hitting .421 with one home run, one triple, one double, five RBI, four runs and five walks, two intentional, while perfect in the field with 20 chances (six putouts, 14 assists).
