Lacrosse senior Sarah Butler recorded back-to-back hat tricks to lead Longwood to a pair of wins over the weekend, 13-7 over Mercer and 18-15 over Kennesaw State.
In the pair of road matchups, the two-time All-Big South pick totaled eight goals, six assists, eight draw controls, five ground balls and two caused turnovers. Five of those goals came in the win at Kennesaw State, including four after halftime. After Longwood came out of the intermission tied 10-10, Butler went on a personal 3-1 run over Kennesaw State to give the Lancers a lead they would not relinquish.
Butler also added six draw controls and three assists against Kennesaw State, her second straight three-assist game after doing so in her first hat trick of the week Friday against Mercer.
Butler has now scored at least three goals in four straight games and leads the Big South with 15 goals and 11 assists on the year. Two of those have been game-winners, while another Big South-leading five have come on free-position shots.
Butler and the Lancers (2-3) return to their home field this Saturday, March 5, for a 1 p.m. showdown against Mount St. Mary's. That will be the final home game before the Lancers' trip to the west coast where they will face Cal in Berkeley, Calif., and Saint Mary's in Moraga Calif., on March 8-10.
