Men's tennis junior Florian Uffer went 2-1 in singles play last week and helped the Lancers pull out a 4-3 win over Hampton following a 4-3 loss to James Madison early in the week and a 7-0 loss to Winthrop.
Uffer picked up both his wins in straight sets, taking down James Madison's Maxi Branth 7-5, 7-6 (7-0) at No. 3 singles and Hampton's Fedor Shirin 6-2, 6-2. Uffer's lone singles loss came at the hands of Winthrop No. 2 Tremayne Mitchell, who outlasted Uffer 6-7 (6-3), 6-1, 6-3.
A native of Savognin, Switzerland, Uffer has been a fixture at the top of Longwood's singles lineup this season, compiling a 9-8 record overall and a 5-4 mark as Longwood's No. 2 singles player.
