Question and Answer Session with Daeisha Brown and Bethany Drury
BD: How did it feel to get the start at Richmond since you’re from there?
DB: It felt good actually. Coming out I was really nervous, with it being my first college game, but right after the jump ball I was good to go.
BD: How did you put together so many points in the first game?
DB: My game is penetrating and I actually hate shooting, but when I see the middle open I go for it. My game is also speed, so whenever I have a fast break I try to push it in transition and go with that.
BD: What is it like to start as a rookie?
DB: Every game I’m nervous anyway, and starting makes me even more nervous about whether I’m going to mess up a lot or do well. There’s just a lot going on in my head, but I try to keep my composure and play hard, as always.
BD: Do you have any pregame rituals?
DB: During the National Anthem, I always say a little prayer to get that nervousness out of me and keep that confidence on the court.
BD: Why did you choose Longwood?
DB: Because it’s not too far from home and it’s not too close. I actually didn’t know a lot about Longwood until they recruited me. Then I looked it up more and it was a really good choice.
BD: What is your favorite thing about Longwood basketball?
DB: Traveling because I don’t get to travel much.
BD: What’s your favorite Longwood tradition?
DB: Oktoberfest.
BD: What are you most excited about for this season?
DB: I’m most excited about the Big South Conference and to see how far we’re going to get since we just started its our first season.
BD: Do you have any advice for an aspiring player?
DB: Just follow your dreams and keep working hard at whatever you’re trying to do. Do what you have to do and don’t let anybody get in the way of your dreams.
BD: Do you have any role models?
DB: My brother, he’s a senior and he played basketball last year. He went to Saint Augustine in North Carolina. My mother is my other role model. She is the strongest woman I know. She’s been through a lot. My brother is my role model for basketball and my mother for everything else.
BD: Who is your favorite athlete?
DB: Allen Iverson when he was in the game. He was a point guard for the 76ers.
BD: What is your favorite movie?
DB: Hangover 2
BD: What is your favorite song?
DB: ‘No Worries’ by Lil’ Wayne.
BD: What are your post-grad plans?
DB: I want to go to the WNBA. If that doesn’t work out, I want to do something involving business management.
