FARMVILLE, Va. - Longwood University junior field hockey midfielder Stacey de Grandhomme|CapeTown, South Africa (Table View) is this week’s Longwood Female Athlete of the Week. de Grandhomme notched the game-winning goal in overtime to propel the Lancers to a 1-0 victory against NorPac opponent Davidson College on October 20. She currently leads the team with 12 goals and 28 total points.

Q: What did the team do in overtime against Davidson to score the winning goal?
A: The team worked hard to step it up. We were able to earn a foul in the circle, knowing that we could capitalize on the corner and get the ball in the back of the cage.
Q: What advice would you give to a young, aspiring player?
A: Work hard and never give up on your dreams, but don't forget to enjoy it.
Q: What got you interested in playing field hockey?
A: My brother used to play. After watching him, his coach asked me to start playing, so I did.
Q: What is your pregame ritual?
A: I drink a Coca-Cola before and after every game.
Q: What are your post-graduation plans?
A: I'm hoping to continue to play field hockey in England or Holland.
Q: How did you decide to leave South Africa and come to Longwood?
A: I knew it would be a great opportunity and experience to leave my comfort zone of South Africa for four years to earn my degree and play the sport that I love.
Q: Is it hard going to school so far away from home?
A: Initially it was challenging, but with the welcoming individuals on the team, they helped to make the transition much easier.
Q: Had you traveled to the United States before deciding to go to school at Longwood?
A: I visited the States when I was about 3 or 5, but I don't remember it.
Q: Are there any other activities that you enjoy doing?
A: Playing golf, surfing and hanging out with friends.
Q: Are there any interesting facts about you or your family?
A: My cousin plays for the New Zealand National Cricket Team.
