SPARTANBURG, S.C. – The Longwood cross country teams opened the 2026 season at the USC Upstate Eye Opener, with the men placing eighth in their 8k race at the Roger Milliken Center, recording a team score of 208.
NOTABLE RESULTS:
Junior
Andrew Hathaway led the Lancers, finishing 24th overall with a time of 26:35.1. Freshman
Jonah Bowman followed in 40th at 26:51.8, while senior
Clinton Clancy finished 49th with a time of 27:11.5.
Sophomore
Sean Arjona recorded a 63rd place finish at 27:41.1, and freshman
Shane Myers rounded out Longwood's top five in 76th at 28:05.8.
Sophomore
Andrew Rutherford finished 86th at 28:42.1, freshman
Owen Wratten finished just behind Rutherford in 87th at 28:43.3, followed by sophomore
Sean Jaqua in 95th at 28:56.7. Jjunior
Josh Martin finished 99th at 29:08.3, senior
Nic Williams placed 102nd at 29:11.6, and junior
Daniel Duarte finished 103rd at 29:13.6.
Freshman
Wyatt McNiel finished 114th at 30:05.1, while sophomore
Louis Semtner rounded out the Longwood field in 119th at 30:25.5.
WHAT THEY SAID - HEAD COACH BROOKE CRAIG:
"We knew today was going to have to be a controlled effort because of the heat. The guys focused on working in their pace groups for the first 5K and then racing the last 8k. It was a good preview of the conference championship course. The guys will be ready for the competition when we return next month."
