FARMVILLE, Va. – Longwood men's and women's cross country open the 2026 season Friday evening at the USC Upstate Eye Opener in Spartanburg, South Carolina.
The women are scheduled to compete at 7:00 p.m., followed by the men at 7:40 p.m.Â
"The team is prepared to make a statement on Friday after seeing the preseason polls. We just wrapped up our preseason block of training and this group is special. They have fully bought in on raising the standard this year. They are driven and hold each other accountable to their goals. I'm looking forward to seeing their hard work pay off throughout this season."
Who to Watch
• Junior Sophie Farley enters the season as the owner of the fastest 5K and 6K times in Longwood women's cross country history. Farley ran 17:34.5 in the 5K and 20:54.5 in the 6K during the 2025 season.Â
• Kirsten Morley enters 2026 ranked third in the program's 6K record book with a time of 22:11.0 and sixth in the 5K at 18:36.6.Â
• Clinton Clancy ranks second in the program's 8K record book with a 25:09.2, fourth in the 6K at 19:28.3 and fourth in the 10K at 33:15.4.Â
• AJ Koval owns the third-fastest 8K in Longwood history at 25:27.7 and the second-fastest 10K at 33:06.6. Koval also holds the program's third-fastest 6K at 19:19.6.Â
