Longwood Men's Soccer Earns Votes in National Coaches' Poll

FARMVILLE, Va. - On the strength of the best Division I start in program history, the country is starting to take notice of Longwood men's soccer.  
 
The Lancers were among nine teams in the also receiving votes category of the latest United Soccer Coaches NCAA Division I Men's Soccer Rankings, which was released on Tuesday, Sept. 1. It marks the first time in the program's Division I history it has received votes in the national coaches' poll.  
 
Longwood ran its season-opening win streak to four with a 2-1 win at Campbell on Tuesday night. Trailing 1-0 at the break, the Lancers scored twice in the second half thanks to juniors Brando Bedolla and Joshwa Campbell to move to 4-0 for the first time in DI history and just the fifth time overall.  
 
Under the direction of third-year head coach Paul Gilbert, the Lancers sport the top offense in the country. As of Sept. 1, Longwood leads the nation in total goals (17) and points (54), while ranking second in assists (20). Individually, Bedolla is tied for the national lead in assists (5) and points (13), while ranking fourth in goals (4). Campbell is second nationally in goals (5) and third in points (11).  
 
Longwood continues its road trip at ETSU on Saturday. Kickoff is set for 1 p.m. from Summers-Taylor Stadium in Johnson City, Tenn.
