Offensive Firepower Lifts Men's Soccer to 4-2 Win over Coastal Carolina

FARMVILLE, Va. - Longwood men's soccer continued its offensive onslaught on Monday night in its home opener, scoring twice in each half to down Coastal Carolina, 4-2, at the Longwood Athletics Complex.

Junior forward Joshwa Campbell tallied two goals for the second-straight contest, while junior forward Brando Bedolla had a hand in all four Longwood goals with a marker and three assists. Freshman Levon Saribekyan added a pair of assists, and senior Mesfin Roda tallied the other Longwood goal on the evening. The Lancers (2-0) knocked off a Coastal Carolina team that was coming off a season-opening 0-0 draw with No. 2-ranked N.C. State.

Longwood wasted little time getting on the scoreboard less than five minutes into the contest. Campbell punched it home from the middle of the six-yard box to get the Lancers on the board. Bedolla served in the corner kick and freshman midfielder Baltazar Gramajo headed into the six where Campbell was for the finish.

After the Chanticleers (0-1-1) equalized in the 34th minute, the Lancers answered right back less than three minutes later with a quick counter goal. Off a turnover in the attacking third, Roda slotted home his first goal of the season from just inside the top of the 18. Off a turnover, Saribekyan and Bedolla combined to find Roda for the open look.

Just under seven minutes into the second half, Campbell again found the back of the net to increase the lead to 3-1. As on the previous Lancer goal, Saribekyan and Bedolla combined in the midfield to gain space, before Bedolla set Campbell free down the left side. The junior forward lifted a shot into the left side of the frame for his fourth goal of the season.

Bedolla pushed the lead to 4-1, scoring on a rocket from just outside the 18 to the upper right corner of the frame in the 75th minute. Senior Pau Garcia set the play up by stepping in front of a Coastal pass to force the turnover and find Bedolla for his second goal in as many matches. It was Garcia's second assist in as many games.

Coastal Carolina scored off a corner kick with 10 minutes remaining to provide the final margin. Longwood outshot the visitors, 13-7, putting eight of its attempts on frame. In goal, senior Nicolas Pucci collected a trio of saves for the Lancers.
