CHARLOTTE, N.C. - Longwood junior forward
Brando Bedolla was named the Big South Men's Soccer Offensive Player of the Week, the league announced on Monday.
It marked the second-straight week that a Lancer was honored after Youssef Shafei earned the distinction last week. It is Bedolla's second career offensive player of the week award and third weekly Big South accolade.
Bedolla tallied two goals and three assists in leading the Lancers to a pair of wins last week. Bedolla is one of the driving forces behind the top offense in the country and has been instrumental in the first 3-0 start in Longwood's Division I history. As of Aug. 30, the Lancers lead the country in goals per game (5.0), assists per game (6.33), and points per game (16.33).
In Longwood's win over Coastal Carolina, Bedolla had a hand in all four Lancer goals. He provided an assist on each of the team's first three goals, before scoring the capper in the 75th minute with a rocket into the upper 90 of the goal from 18 yards out. On Friday, Bedolla started and played just 30 minutes in the Lancers dominating 5-0 win over Southern Virginia. He scored the game-winner in the sixth minute on a shot from 22 yards as Longwood found the back of the net twice in the game's first 10 minutes.
The Greenville, S.C., native is off to an impressive start to the season, leading Longwood with 11 points on three goals and five assists through the opening three games. Individually, he ranks second nationally in points per game (3.67), third in assists per game (1.67), and 10th in goals per game (1.0).
Bedolla and the Lancers return to action when they travel to Campbell on Tuesday, Sept. 1, at 6 p.m. The game will be broadcast on FloCollege and via the FloSports Channel on Prime Video.
