Men's Golf Opens Season at Bryan National Collegiate

FARMVILLE, Va. - Longwood men's golf opens the season at the Bryan National Collegiate on Saturday and Sunday. Hosted by UNCG, the event will be held at the Bryan Park Golf Course in Browns Summit, N.C.  
 
Along with the Lancers and host Spartans, the field consists of Davidson, Delaware, George Washington, Gardner-Webb, Georgetown, IU Indy, LaSalle, N.C. A&T, Queens, Radford, and William & Mary. The event will be 36 holes on Saturday, beginning at 8 a.m., with the final round to follow on Sunday.

Lancer News and Notes  
- Senior Matthew Lyons and sophomores Matthew Hartley and Josh Cummins have the top returning scoring averages from last season. Cummins posted a 73.27 across 15 rounds followed by Hartley at 73.37 in 27 rounds and Lyons at 73.54 in 24 rounds.  
- Both Hartley and Lyons were part of the Lancers lineup for the Big South Championships in April. Hartley led the team, finishing in a share of eighth place at 2-under 211.  
- Cummins best performance last season came in an individual victory at the Larry and Wally Edgell Battle at Brunswick in March. He shot a 2-under 214 to outdistance a 95-player field.  
- Lyons's top finish last season was a third-place effort at the ODU/Kilmarlic Intercollegiate, shooting a 1-under 213. The Lancers return to the event in October.  
- All three Lancer newcomers will compete in the first event of the year. Sophomore Parker Brock and freshman Harrison Beaudoin are both part of Longwood's five-man lineup, while sophomore Charlie Spiller will compete as an individual.
- Beaudoin was one of the top junior players in the Commonwealth of Virginia, twice being named all-state and qualifying for the Virginia State Opens in 2025 and 2026. Brock, who was the 2024 Minnesota high school champion, posted a 74.33 scoring average in six rounds at South Dakota State as a freshman, while Spiller, who was named Mr. Golf and was the individual state champion as a senior in Kentucky, tallied an average of 74.13 in 15 rounds at Belmont last season.
