Boyd Named Director of Social Media for Women’s Hoops

Former CIAA staffer takes reins of creative direction for Lancers

FARMVILLE, Va. — Jana' Boyd has been selected as director of social media for Longwood women's basketball, head coach Erika Lang-Montgomery announced Monday.

Boyd joins the Lancers after serving as director of graphic design and photography for Trigon Combat/Global Combat Collective in Charlotte, N.C., where she led branding, photography, social media and promotional efforts for professional combat sports.

Before her most recent role, Boyd spent nearly seven years with the NCAA Division II Central Intercollegiate Athletic Association, advancing from strategic communications intern to assistant director of digital content and creative services. Throughout her tenure, she produced photography, video, graphic design and social media campaigns while helping elevate the conference's digital presence and fan engagement.

"We are excited to welcome Jana' to our staff," said Lang-Montgomery. "She brings a tremendous amount of experience, creativity and talent to our program and her expertise in graphic design and creative content will be instrumental in elevating and strengthening the Longwood brand."

During her time with the CIAA, Boyd helped generate more than 4 million social media impressions during championship events and played a key role in increasing the conference's digital audience. She also managed social media strategy, created multimedia content across multiple platforms, coordinated community engagement initiatives and produced media releases for conference sports.

"Being a student-athlete played such a big role in my life, so joining Longwood women's basketball feels like a full-circle moment," Boyd said. "I'm excited to combine my love for athletics and creativity to tell the stories of this program and create memories our student-athletes can look back on for years to come."

Earlier in her career, Boyd increased the CIAA Sports Network's social media following from approximately 9,000 to more than 24,000 followers while serving as digital content and creative services liaison, earning a promotion to assistant director in 2022.

Boyd earned a bachelor's degree in graphic design from Elizabeth City State and is working toward completing a Master of Business Administration with a concentration in marketing from Charlotte.

A former standout collegiate bowler, Boyd was named CIAA Player of the Year, Elizabeth City State Female Athlete of the Year and team captain during her playing career. She has remained active in both communications and bowling through organizations and leadership opportunities, including the College Sports Communicators Diversity & Inclusion Committee, the NCAA Division II Women's Bowling Regional Advisory Committee and the Women Leaders Rising Professional Award program.

As director of social media, Boyd will oversee the women's basketball program's creative strategy, including photography, videography, graphic design and social media initiatives while enhancing the program's brand and engaging recruits, student-athletes, alumni and fans.
