HIGH POINT, N.C. – Kirsten Morley threw down a program-best time in the women's 10,000-meter race as the Big South Championships officially began on Monday evening.
Â
Morley became the first Lancer distance runner on either the men's or women's side to score in the brief history of the program, and multiple other Lancers ran personal bests or advanced to finals, or both, on the opening day of the conference championship.
Â
NOTABLE RESULTS:
Â
Morley's time of 37:15.70 gave Longwood three points as she finished sixth in the grueling 10,000-meter race.
Â
Meanwhile,
Sophie Farley qualified for the women's 1,500-meter finals with a 4:39.84 time in the prelims, and
Sam Bolen also set a season-best in the same race with a 4:47.75 to finish less than four seconds from also qualifying for the 12-runner final.
Â
Nyomi Rhodes advanced to the women's 400-meter hurdle final with a 1:03.65.
Â
For the men,
Clinton Clancy had a personal best of 32:12.63 in the men's 10,000-meter race.
Andrew Hathaway was one spot out of qualifying for the men's 1,500-meter final after posting a 4:01.27 in the prelims.
Â
WHAT THEY SAID:
Â
"Good start to the championship with several PRs and season bests," said Longwood Director of Cross Country and Track & Field
Brooke Craig. "Our mission this year is to score more than last year, and we are trending in the right direction."
Â
"Really happy for Kirsten in her historic run," Craig added. "She's worked hard on her mental game, and it paid off today."
