Men's Golf

Men's Golf Seventh Following Second Round at Wofford Invitational

Lafreniere Stays in Top 20, Hartley, Lyons Climb 10 Spots

SPARTANBURG, S.C. – Two rounds are complete at the Wofford Invitational, and Longwood men's golf is in sole possession of seventh at the Country Club of Spartanburg.

David Lafreniere stayed in the top 20 to lead the way for the Lancers on the par 71 course.

HOW IT HAPPENED:

Longwood finished the day five shots back of the top five, where Mercer and the hosts, Wofford, are tied at six over. Longwood is 13 shots back of Winthrop in fourth.

Lafreniere entered the day tied for 18th and stayed in that spot with a one-over 72 in the round. He had a trio of birdies, giving him six over the first two rounds, where he shot a 70-72—142 (E).

Cameron Hardison moved up five spots into a tie for 28th by matching his first round score, and he holds a 72-72—144 (+2) with one round remaining. He had four birdies on the day and has tallied eight through two rounds.

Both Matthew Lyons and Matthew Hartley climbed up 10 spots in the standings after knocking strokes off their first round. Lyons is tied for 52nd after recording a 75-74—149 (+7), and Hartley is tied for 65th with a 77-75—152 (+10).

Hunter Swidzinski ended the day tied for 46th following a 69-79—148 (+6).

WHAT THEY SAID:

"Today felt like we played a lot more than one round," said Longwood Head Coach Kevin Fillman. "Sure, the setup was difficult, and the winds were up a bit more throughout the day, all of which wears you out, but, for whatever reason, it seemed like we were out there forever. Truth be told, we didn't make it very easy on ourselves either. We just had too many balls in bad spots, once again, and it's extremely tough to score that way. The good news is we have another chance tomorrow. We pretty much have no option but to do everything possible to go take advantage of it."
