LEXINGTON, VA. – Three Lancers made significant moves in the program record book Friday at the VMI Winter Relays, an impromptu meet added to the schedule.
Ayden Stewart highlighted the day with a program-record performance in the 400 meters, while Zach Seidel and
Quinn Marcinek climbed to the top two spots in the 60-meter hurdles rankings.
NOTABLES:
Stewart competed as the lone Lancer in the men's 400 meters and delivered a program-best time of 48.98 seconds, placing sixth overall in a field of 38 runners. His performance bettered the previous school record by more than two seconds, surpassing the mark set by
Jacob Childs two weeks earlier at the Liberty Open.
In the men's 60-meter hurdles, Seidel and Marcinek both posted breakthrough performances to take over the top two spots in Longwood's all-time list. Seidel finished fifth overall in the finals with a time of 8.31 seconds, improving on his previous best of 8.36 set at the Liberty Kickoff. Marcinek followed closely behind, recording a personal-best time of 8.37 seconds to move into second place in program history, improving on his prior mark of 8.58 from the Liberty Open.
WHAT THEY SAID:
"Overall, great meet for the Lancers", said Assistant Coach Jacob Torres. "Ayden had an indoor PR and school record in the 400m running 48.84, finishing 6th overall. Today was all about executing the first 200, which I thought he did well. Excited to see what's in store for the rest of the indoor season. Another school record fell in the 60m hurdles as Zach Seidel took down his own record, running 8.31 in the finals, followed by
Quinn Marcinek right behind him, running a PR of 8.37. The hurdle duo finished 5th and 6
th, respectively. Still, lots of untapped potential from the two freshmen, and I'm happy to see them executing things we have worked on daily in practice."
