Softball Signs Melton, Tellez for 2027

Dr. Brown gains commitments outfielder, infielder

FARMVILLE, Va. — Longwood softball head coach Dr. Megan Brown announced the signing of two players to national letters of intent on Tuesday.

Joining the Lancers as freshmen for the 2027 season are Memorie Melton and Ellayne Tellez.

"We are excited to welcome Memorie and Ellayne to the Longwood softball family," Brown said. "They both bring a wealth of experience to our team and embody the traditions of hard work, perseverance and dedication which are hallmarks of Longwood softball. We look forward to having them on campus next fall."

Memorie Melton

Lyman, S.C.
James F. Byrnes

A native of Lyman, S.C., and product of Byrnes High School, Melton has earned five letters in softball and four consecutive district championships from 2022-25. Melton helped the Rebels to 5A Upstate championships in 2023 and 2025 and a 5A state title in 2025. Melton's Lyman squad was state runner up in 2023, as well.

She batted .307 as a freshman and .455 as a junior with a .530 on-base percentage.

Melton played in the Starz Gold Summer Showcase, earning 5A all-region honors

Ellayne Tellez

Los Angeles, Calif.
Notre Dame

Tellez has played four years of varsity softball at Notre Dame High School in Los Angeles, batting no lower than .320 in her last three seasons with the Knights. As a junior in 2025, Tellez batted .392.

Tellez won a PHF national championship with her travel team, I-5 Banbrook Shea.
