Lancers Set to Play in NFCA DI Leadoff Classic for First Time in 2026

Longwood has five games on tap at prestigious 18-team season-opening event

LOUISVILLE — The Longwood softball team will compete in the  NFCA DI Leadoff Classic presented by MaxBP, for the first time in 2026, the organization announced Thursday.

The field for the 23rd edition of the event Feb. 6-8 at the Eddie C. Moore Sports Complex in Clearwater, Fla., consists of 18 teams. The Lancers are set to play five games against Pittsburgh (4 p.m.) and Southeastern Louisiana (7 p.m.) on Feb. 6, Michigan State (3 p.m.) and Notre Dame (6 p.m.) Feb. 7 and Boston College (1 p.m.) Feb. 8.

Southeastern Louisiana is the only one of Longwood's opponents in the field to advance to the NCAA tournament a year ago. The Lady Lions were 50-16 overall and won the 2025 Southland Conference championship, advancing to the NCAA Baton Rouge Regional.

Longwood is 2-4 all-time against its five opponents in the tournament. Lancers topped Notre Dame, 2-0, on March 4, 2011 in Orlando, Fla., and Michigan State, 5-2, on March 1, 2008 in Athens, Ga.

Tickets are available through the City of Clearwater here.

Longwood's full 2026 schedule will be announced at a later date.
