Lancers Host Two Weekend Games Friday and Sunday

FARMVILLE VA.- The Longwood Lancers (1-5) return to Elizabeth Burger Jackson field this weekend for two matches. They will kick off MAC Conference play on Friday against Ball State (2-5) and will honor their seniors on Sunday against William & Mary (1-4) . 
 
LOOKING AT HISTORY:
  • Longwood and Ball State have faced off seventeen times, going all the way back to 2009. 
  • The Lancers lead the series 10-7. In their last matchup in 2024, the Cardinals secured a 3-1 win.
  • William & Mary leads the series with Longwood 19-6-3.
  • The two sides played in 2024, with William & Mary winning 3-1.
KEEPING UP WITH THE CARDINALS:
  • Ball State has played one team in the top 20 this season, matching up against No. 15 Ohio State. The Cardinal also faced off against both Stanford and Cal, who are just outside the top 20.
  • Freshman Cali Hyman has started six games for the Cardinals, making 34 saves with a .567 save percentage. Her 17 saves against Ohio State were the most in a game this season in the MAC.
  • Junior Julia Veratti leads Ball State with four goals, with three coming in a 3-2 win over St. Louis
  • Freshman Jade Vandervoorde has two goals and two assists on the season. She notched her two goals in Ball State's overtime win over Lock Haven. 
FACING THE TRIBE:
  • William & Mary has played a tough schedule, including facing off against the sixth-ranked Duke Blue Devils.
  • Junior Josie May Gruendel scored the Tribe's two goals for the season against Lafayette in a 2-1 win
  • In goal for the Tribe is Alexandra De Jesus. De Jesus has made 44 saves and posted a 0.710 save percentage this season
STOPPED BY SOPHIE:
  • In six games this season, Sophie Mooldijk has made 59 saves with a 0.728 save percentage.
  • She currently leads the MAC in saves per game with 9.43. 
  • In the MAC, Mooldijk is third in saves with 59, behind the netminders for Central Michigan and UMass.
