FARMVILLE, Va. – Longwood women's soccer had a pair of players earn Big South weekly honors last week.
Sam Fischer was named the Big South Freshman of the Week, and Senior
Sydney Robertson was named Big South Co-Defender of the Week, the conference office announced today.
Fischer scored both Longwood goals in two Lancer wins on the week. She struck early on the road against High Point in the 16
th minute for a 1-0 win, off a blocked shot from
Emma Jones to score the lone goal of that match.
She also scored the only goal at home against Presbyterian in the 84
th minute off a 1-2-3 from
Karleigh Minson and
Claire Schultz to help the Lancers win 1-0.
Both goals were put into tight spaces and marked Fischer's fifth and sixth collegiate goals.
Robertson has started every single conference match-up for the Lancers and has been the backbone of the Longwood defense.
She helped guide Longwood to back-to-back 1-0 shutouts over High Point and Presbyterian with her smart decision-making and ability to lead her fellow defenders.
The Lancers (6-5-2, 3-1 Big South) return to the road to face off against preseason Big South favorite USC Upstate on Saturday, Oct.11, in Spartanburg, S.C., with kickoff set for 1 p.m. The match will air on ESPN+.
