Johnson, Obeirne, Vrolijks from Field Hockey and Smith, Koenig and Rumbaugh from Lacrosse Earn Academic Award

FARMVILLE, Va. – Longwood field hockey and women's lacrosse each had three players earn College Sports Communicators (CSC) Academic All-District At-Large honors, the CSC announced today.

Hunter-Paige Johnson, Cara Obeirne and Isis Vrolijks nabbed the honors for field hockey, and Emily Cate Smith, Julia Koenig and Ellie Rumbaugh all garnered the awards for women's lacrosse.

CSC awards Academic All-District honors to players who meet strict GPA and playing time thresholds, with the top players later selected for CSC Academic All-America Teams.

Johnson, Obeirne and Vrolijks all excelled in the classroom while also playing pivotal roles on the field for Lancer field hockey. All three had GPA's north of 3.50, and all three played in every match for the Lancers.

Johnson was a stalwart in the midfield, starting all 18 games while posting a pair of assists in her senior season.

Obeirne tied for the team lead with four goals, a career best, and she had two assists as well. She had a career best three points with two goals and one assist on the final day of the regular season in a win over Central Michigan.

Vrolijks served as a rock in the back for Longwood's defense, and she added one goal and one assist while playing all 18 matches with 17 starts.

For women's lacrosse, Smith, Koenig and Rumbaugh all played pivotal roles as well on the field while also coming up aces in the classroom. The trio helped Longwood qualify for the playoffs for the first time since 2019 while posting strong GPA's above the 3.50 requirement from CSC.

Smith finished second on the team in points with 57, and she had a team-best 42 assists. She was 18th in the nation in total assists.

Koenig was an All-Big South First Team selection while being a lynchpin for the Lancer back line. She posted a team-best 83 draw controls, the second-highest total in a single season in team history.

Rumbaugh also played in the back line, and the junior started all 18 contests. She tallied 18 ground balls and nine CT's while chipping in one assist.

Longwood field hockey will return to Elizabeth Burger Jackson for the fall 2024 campaign, and the Lancer lacrosse team will take the field in the spring of 2025.
