FARMVILLE, Va. – Sophomore
Jaden Pone was named the Big South Player of the Week, the conference office announced on Monday afternoon.
Â
Pone had a week that she certainly will never forget. The Hope Mills, N.C. product batted .529 on the week and helped lead the Lancers to a 4-1 record, including a Big South series win over USC Upstate.
She went 3-5 in Longwood's doubleheader sweep over George Mason on Wednesday, highlighted by a triple in game one and two doubles in game two. Pone also posted a 1.000 SLG% and led the Lancers with .579 OB% for the week.
However, the biggest moment of the week for Pone without a doubt was her game-winning grand slam over Upstate in game one of Saturday's doubleheader. The go-ahead shot was good for Pone's first ever collegiate home run and put the icing on the cake for Longwood's first of two wins over the Big South preseason favorite.
The award marks Pone's second Big South Player of the Week distinction this season, with the first coming on February 21
st. On the season, Pone is batting .435 with a 1.105 OPS, .475 on base percentage, and leads the Lancers with 20 stolen bases.
The Lancers are back in action tomorrow as they head west for a doubleheader against #16 Virginia Tech. The first game is set to begin at 3 p.m. in Blacksburg.
