RADFORD LIVE STATS
FARMVILLE, Va. – With under two weeks to play in the regular season, Longwood softball has certainly come a long way in 2023.
The Lancers, who finished the 2022 campaign as Big South regular season champions and runners-up in the conference tournament, looked the build on the success of last season. Sitting at second place in the conference, Longwood now holds an opportunity to control their own destiny in the Big South.
The season began on quite the high note, as the Lancers
downed #4 Florida State in just the second game of the season. Longwood followed up the monumental win by continuing their rugged non-conference schedule, facing the likes of #1 Oklahoma, #9 Alabama, #13/17 Virginia Tech, and (RV) Baylor (now currently 20
th in the country).
Having been battled tested by their tough non-conference schedule, the Lancers took their breadth of experience into conference play. Through roughly a month against Big South competition, the Lancers hold an 11-3 record with only two series against Radford and Campbell to go.
Although the majority of non-conference play is behind them, Longwood welcomed another Top 25 opponent to town last night in #8/9 Duke University. The Lancers again shocked the softball world, picking up a
walk-off 4-3 win. The upset was the second top-ten victory for the Lancers on the season and the only time that any sport at Longwood has pulled off such a feat.
With their massive victory now behind them, the Lancers set their sights on Radford for another Big South conference series. Longwood holds a 33-12 all-time Division-I record against the Highlanders and have won each of the past four meetings dating back to 2021.
Game one is set to begin today at 2 p.m. in Radford while games two and three will take place on Saturday beginning at 1 p.m. There will be no video coverage of this weekend's games, but fans can follow along all the action at the following
